Description
An early 19th century view of Mexico created a few years after Mexico's independence from Spain. The map shows the original boundaries of the new country of Mexico, stretching further north than the present-day border. At that time Mexico included much of the present-day southwestern US, including territory as far north as California, Nevada, and Utah. The map shows numerous mountain ranges, rivers, roads, cities, towns, and forts, and indicates the locations of many Native American tribes. Two inset charts show a table of distances between cities, and a statistical chart of Mexican states. An inset map at the bottom left shows the region between Mexico City and Veracruz.
