Apollo rocket. Saturn V rocket being moved on a crawler vehicle from the launch pad to the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) during Apollo 500-F training. The crawler weighs 3000 tonnes by itself, and the combined weight of the Saturn V rocket and its launch tower is about 6000 tonnes. The crawler traveled the 5.6 kilometers from the launch pad to the VAB at less than 1.6 kilometers per hour. The Apollo 500-F rocket was never launched, but instead served verify the launch facilities, train launch crews, and develop procedures for tests and checks. Photographed on 24 October 1966; the first Saturn V launch was on 9 November 1967.
