Arc De Triomphe - Paris France
The Arc de Triomphe is a war memorial in Paris located at the west end of the Champs Elysees.
Design and construction began in 1806. It is 164 ft in height and there is an elevator and stairs to the top for a panoramic view of the city. Beneath the arch is the tomb of an unknown soldier from World War One.
It is surrounded entirely by a multi-avenue roundabout; therefore, safe access is by underground tunnel beneath the street. The memorial is so massive that a pilot flew his bi-plane through the arch in 1919 to celebrate the end of World War One.
