Art Recycles Art
Painting - Poster
Joseph Barbara and his art at SPLENDID, Strada Stretta, Valletta.
When an artist makes a final design for a recipient destined for the consumer market s/he cannot stop the artifact evolving as artistically recycled waste.
Joseph Barbara is a permanent fixture in the Malta art scene and never stops evolving through the various schools of painting like Prismatic art, Philosophical art and Surreal art. Alongside these movements he has also been exploring the possibility of recycling discarded plastic consumer objects into monumental installations since 1984.
From Friday 26th October a street display of Barbara’s installations made from recycled artifacts will be staged just outside the Splendid Cultural Incubator Centre (SCIC) at No 84 Strait Street Valletta. This carpeted promenade 2x30meters will become a people’s agora for 2 weeks. There will be a series of street performers and street artists interacting with the passing visitors during the day.
Inside the SCIC building a retrospective of Joseph Barbara’s paintings will be hung on the 2 floors of the premises. In the evenings there will be poetry readings, art lectures, power-point presentations on creativity and a life class by various artists in the main hall.
The street installation and art exhibition will remain open until Sunday the 11th of November. The cultural event is being held under the auspices of CREA/MED, ZARARTI Foundation, Fundazzjoni Temi Zammit and SCIC.
