Description
This is one of 195 illustrations found throughout the first book of the adventure/fantasy series titled "The Vine Of Hours". I am the author/illustrator. Asema is a metamorph. She has the ability to change herself into a bird. An Alerion bird to be precise. Alerion feathers have razor sharp edges and can be a variety of very bright colors, though the most commom is red, fiery red. She is a confident of the Forest Lord, The Leshzwee. She despises Therion, the Beast, because he not only associates with, but is friendly, and even has some close relationships with humans. She disaproves, but keeps her feelings to herself, with varying degrees of success, depending on the circumstances. She has waited for years for the spirit and essence of the Leshzwe to be ready to re-emerge again. She is employed in Bumpo Castle as a falconer, one of the many trainers and hunters that use the seasonal collection of predatory birds to supply the castle with meat each and ever day. She works with a Gyrfalcon that always takes a rabbit or pheasant to bring back to the kitchen. Usually several. The policy is to keep the birds for a season or two and then release them back into the wild. Nests of predatory birds are actively searched for and gleaned. Hand raising the chicks makes them far more manageable. It was through her falconing position in the castle that she was first able to make contact with Leeward, the baker. Unknown to him, the Leshzwee lay repressed in his mind all these years, and that he is just a host for the Forest Lord until he is ready to reemerge. Asema triggered the process that woke the Leshzwee, and within a day or two, he began to emerge from out of the psyce of the baker, and then took his body over physically, from within.
