Description:
“AUTISM”
By:
R.L.Fitchett
Autism is not a disease, nor is epilepsy. Autism is an insidious affliction. Epilepsy is a malfunction in the brain that causes seizures.
There is no medication for autism, perseverance and therapies are the proven methods to help. The medications for epilepsy, on the other hand this makes it much harder for a break through with the autism. The two coupled together really deal the person a raw hand.
When you think you have a break through with the autism the seizures elevate and the meds have to be increased. The crack in the door that was opening has sealed yet again.
You keep working hand over hand, and repeating until the day one of the bars break free. Every person needs expectations to work toward, as long as the expectations are not too far out there. Failures will be few and far between. Baby steps are god sent.
It is an adventure. Never knowing what will happen. You know there is intelligence; you just need to find the motivator to release some of it. The leaps ahead and then the dead stops are many and varied. Some, may last for a long time or; just be a glimmer in passing.
The medical professionals, teachers, workers who dedicate themselves to each and every person are to be commended with every success story.
Perseverance and energy are needed to accomplish the break through, just; imagine the energy and perseverance the person afflicted, has to expend. They are true heroes.
Last week my grandson graduated from grade 8. Pat received an Award of Excellence for Most Improved. His programs are modified to his levels. As his teacher, who presented the award said, “Pat, has had to constantly face the frustrations of doing tasks that he did not know he could succeed in.”
He is our hero; he is only 14 yrs old, we and he in turn, will keep working toward a wonderful fulfilling life. Next step High School.
