Autumn In The Pioneer Valley
Painting - Oil On Canvasboard
Low mountains and vibrant bands of trees showing their autumn leaves - my memory of the change of seasons in Western MA.
Oil on canvas board.
The oil was built up in layers, working in an impasto style with a palette knife and brush- sculpting the details into the paint. The effect is very textured, where the texture helps tell the story and portray the subject. This allows for more fluid and intense use of color without the painting becoming completely abstract. It also creates an intriguing juxtaposition of painted subject versus the painting as subject and object.
