My 92 year old father lived alone in his rural Ohio home, surrounded by beautiful trees and birds. He sacrificed for years to get his dream home away from the city. I moved to California years ago and didn't get to Ohio often. When I last saw my father, it was his 90th birthday and he was as happy as I'd ever seen him - and fairly healthy after a bout with cancer and a close call with death a few years back. This time I was there because he was in hospital again and it didn't look good. He was as alert as ever, but in considerable pain and unable to move without assistance. I stayed with a friend and went out to the house to check on things for him. It was early morning - a gorgeous autumn day with the mist from the cool morning air still rising off the dew. I knew my father would never see his beloved home again and I felt an overwhelming sadness that I could not share this glorious morning beauty with him. I've tried to capture my feelings in this digitally enhanced photography from his backyard.
