I love this, but then I love all your work. Would like to watch you paint sometime. You must have a lot of patience. I'm anxious to start some watercolors I've been working on a series of oils for a show in Aug. I have some great news I had a painting accepted into Watercolor USA.

Thank you Helena for your nice comments, they are inspiring. I admire your style with soft, luminous tones and attractive delicacy, and keep many of your works as favorites. This allegory is one of them. You created harmonic symphony with color and light, your Autumn represented as a beautiful young woman has the human soul, she is magnificent. With a limited color range you applied a myriad of tonal variations to describe grass, leaves, and all details. The compositionally perfect and chromatically balanced it evokes sensibility and tenderness.

Description:

My paintings are very much influenced by the seasons. The goddesses, myths, fairie lore, colors and mood of what I?m seeing outside the studio windows and on my walks flow into my art.

This image was painted in late autumn, early winter and inspired by the Greek myth about Demeter, the Earth mother, and her search for daughter Persephone who was abducted by Hades and taken to his underground realm. Demeter stands in the remains of a once fertile garden now choked with dead weeds, contemplating the last fruit of the harvest and brooding about Persephone's sudden disappearance. The luminous fruit represents the love she bears for her daughter, and the nature of their relationship. As an Earth Goddess she is also the Life Tree and all offspring (whether creative concepts, art or actual children) are the fruit she bears. At this point unaware of the abduction, Demeter senses Persephone is suffering and wonders where she is. She imagines her daughter?s state of mind (depicted over the heart area) and employs her goddess and maternal powers of deduction, logic, and intuition to focus on the possible cause, situation, and ways to discover more information.

This myth is a favorite of mine and there are 4 levels of understanding painted into this image, but you'd probably fall asleep reading it all!
