Sharon Mau replied:

. thank you so much Juergen . . this bloom . the ginger flower stalk was actually almost as tall as I am . . it was near the waterfall in an area here on Maui we call Twin Falls . . near Hoolawa liilii (li'ili'i translates from Hawaiian as little or small referring to little Ho'olawa stream . one of two main tributary streams . . there is also a Hoolawa Nui (Big Hoolawa Stream) . . the Hoolawa li'ili'i is near a popular small waterfall locals call caveman . . when I was there the water was brackish and very low . this is due to the water being diverted which is another story . . and the mosquitos were swarming . . however . . nearby is a very large stand of awapuhi ko oko'o . the beautiful torch ginger . . this one is near a gate by a pathway near a weir and this flower along with all the others stood about eye level . . I had to hold my camera over my head to take the shot . . it is jungle in this area very thick with vegetation and very humid so if you visit this area be sure to bring fresh drinking water and plenty mosquito repellent . . Aloha :)
