Description
They are also known as the pygmy marmoset, Pocket Monkey and Tiny Lion. These primates belong to the family Callitrichidae, species Cebuella and genus C. pygmaea.
Finger monkeys are found in the slightly hilly forested terrains of the Amazon Rainforest and are native to rain-forests of Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia.
These primates may be few and unique in other parts of the world, but they are living in large numbers in the Amazon Rainforest and are not considered an endangered species.
If you are thinking about buying a Finger Monkey, collect information about this monkey first. These are some facts about them.
Adults are generally 13 to 14 inches long. They have a long tail which is even longer than the body and are a beautiful species of primates.
In captivity they can live for 15 to 20 years, but have a shorter life span in the jungle. Their diet is unique, as they chew the bark of trees for resin or sap. This is a very special diet. These primates are quite selective regarding which trees or plants they use for extracting the sap. If you are planning to adopt a finger monkey as pet, you can give it a better environment if there are trees or garden nearby. They can also be fed on packed food .
Finger monkeys are intelligent, playful, and they communicate well with each other. Usually they live happier if there are two or four monkeys together. This is like a colony for them .
Temperament : They can get angry sometimes and may even bite. These creatures can also create trouble with other animals as they are mischievous by nature.
How much does it cost to keep a finger monkey ? Prices range from $1,500.00 to $8,000.00. You need to consider veterinary bills, food, cage, and cleaning bills. They can take up a lot of your time as well.
As with all monkeys they are naughty. You need to have patience to bear their acts. In general, they like to live in the pristine environments of the Amazon Rainforest. So, it becomes difficult for them to adapt to our lifestyle. They are not recommended as pets unless you have the time, money, and patience to keep them .
If you are interested in purchasing one, you are better off buying a baby, raising it and training it yourself. Buying an adult is not recommended as this is basically a wild animal and there is nothing you can do to change that.
There are numerous scam websites that make you think you just place your order, make the payment and it will be shipped to you. Many are after your money and will not ship you anything. If you still are interested, you need to locate a facility that breeds and raises them in a clean, healthy environment. You should research the background and reputation of this facility and only purchase the animal in person at the facility where they are raised.
The easiest and most cost effective way to keep a finger monkey is by owning one of these fine art images.
