Description:
Once threatened to extinction, due to the use of DDT and over hunting, the Bald Eagle has begun to recover. To see such a bird feels like a gift, they carry with them a sense of confidence and strength that is infectious. With a wingspan of nearly 6 feet, it is quite a sight to see one soaring overhead!
The Bald Eagle is part of a family of sea eagles that are distributed throughout the world. Each species of sea eagle has unique characteristics suited to its habitat. Unfortunately, not all of the sea eagles in the world are safe from being placed on the endangered species list.
This painting was done using traditional Chinese detail painting techniques. It is a long process of outlining the details in various values of ink, then glazing over the ink painting with many layers of color. I used only red, blue and yellow paint to create the various hues, while the ink provides the value tones.
Occasionally, I like to practice some of the basic techniques as a refresher. Sometimes doing so leads to new discoveries and further growth.
