Color, detail, and texture await you among the photos of the Portal Collection. These images of doors, windows, and arches are drawn from the cities and small towns across Cuba. These are the legacy of formerly wealthy owners that have moved on or faded into history.
The capital of Granma Province is Bayamo, the second oldest city in Cuba. Compared to other cities, the center is considered modern. This is due to the fact that in 1869 the townspeople set fire to their city rather than surrender it to advancing Spanish troops.
The streets are lined with colorful homes with unique and decorative grillwork providing security in an impoverished area. Traffic is non-existent and there very few trees along the roads leading from the main square.
