Bear Carving 1

Sculpture - Wood
This is my attempt at carving. We had a small tornado rip through our yard that took out about 20 large trees last year. Our beautiful maple tree that gave me wonderful shade in my studio on the top floor, was ripped out of the ground. After the initial shock and sadness at loosing this good friend, my hubby cut up the tree and, when he got to the base, we decided to try to carve a bear.
I showed him where I wanted the basic chainsaw cuts and then I proceeded to carve the details with my dad's old carving tools. I had a blast! The one root is still in the ground and, although it may not last, for now it's a perfect base for our carving. I know my attempt is not perfect - I think I've been thinking in two dimensions for too long - but I had great fun and to me it was like making lemonade out of a lemon.
