Description
Left hand of Buddha in lap at a temple in Vientiane, Laos. This particular symbolic hand gesture is known as Bhudisparsa Mudra (Mudra meaning 'Seal' or Sign' in Sanskrit; Mudras are symbolic body postures or gestures). The right hand of Buddha touches the earth, representing unshakability or steadfastness. The left hand (depicted here), placed in the lap in a meditation position, represents wisdom.

This is so beautiful. The tones and textures are as soothing as the hand itself. Lovely balance of composition as well.
