When I was a child I remember hearing a young calf referred to as a "Bossy" or "Bossie". This creature may be a bit big to be called a "bossy", that is why the photo is named "Big Bossy". It is said that the word "Bos" is the Roman word for cow, perhaps that is the origination of the term "bossy". As a youngster I sometimes watched the cows meander in to be milked after the call "Here bossy, bossy, bossy" was made.
"Big Bossy", by Joy Nichols, pictures a young calf out in the pasture. The youngster could be an Ayrshire, Red and White, Friesian, or Red Pied, I do not know. This picture was taken in Farmington Maine.
