Bison Latifrons And Dire Wolf
Sculpture - Bronze
Bison latifrons was the largest bison that ever lived anywhere in the world. It evolved from Bison priscus, which migrated over the Bering Straight land bridge some 300,000 years ago. The largest fossil ever found of latifrons measured 8.5 feet at the shoulder hump, with a horn spread of over 9 feet! Here the sculpture at life scale is pictured at a landscape made of wild prairie grasses similar to the range that this mighty beast once thrived in. Also the Northern Dire Wolf is is a part of this monument, shown as one of the pack that is testing the latifrons bull to see if he may exhibit any weakness that the pack of wolves can use against him. The wolf measures 42" H at his shoulder.
