Description:
The stone is a grey black granite, found locally. I wanted to avoid the polished look for this carving and went with detailing the hair. The coarse hair is something you notice when you see a black bear in the woods. Some polishing has created a shiny black mixed with the grey of the detailed cuts and the overall affect is different from anything I have seen other stone carvers attempt.
The cub sits back on his haunches, looking up at the mother bear as she notices something in the distance. At least that is what I had in mind, but the two are separate and could be arranged in several ways. Every time I have seen bear cubs, I am struck by how curious and playful they are, while the mother bear is guarded and watchful.
This is a two piece set.
