The Black Swan (Cygnus atratus) which, unlike other swan species, is black except for white wing tips visible in flight is native to most of Australia, but more common in the south. Its preferred habitat is large, shallow, permanent waterways where it can feed in the shallow water and there is plenty of room for take-off for such a large bird. Monogamous couples share incubating the eggs and raising the young chicks.
