She was 21 and dying of leukemia. Her husband was in prison in another state. Her daughter was 3, and she worried about the girl's future. She couldn't work and sat in the dark in the evenings to save on the power bill.

She died 8 months later, and her daughter was sent to be raised by her abusive husband and his more abusive father.
The daughter grew up and became manager of a WalMart store.
