Painting - Oil On Canvas
There are few animals that symbolize joy as well as the dolphin. These clever mammals are known to be one of the most intelligent creatures (by human standards). They display the ability to easily learn, and social groups (pods) can even develop their own unique culture, passing down knowledge of tools and foraging techniques from generation to generation. There have been documented reports of dolphins helping each other as well as other mammals (including humans) by bringing the weak or drowning to the surface, and warding off sharks.
Unfortunately, we haven't been very kind to dolphins. We capture them and use them for entertainment (and even to search for underwater mines!). In Taiji, Japan alone it is estimated that 20,000 dolphins are slaughtered each year.
15% of the proceeds from this image (original and prints) go to The Animal Welfare Institute (http://www.awionline.org/). The listed price includes international shipping from Nassau, The Bahamas.
