Description:

This painting depicts the beloved Celtic goddess/saint Brighid. One of the names she was known by is 'Flaming Arrow'. Being a Leo (fire sign) I rather like this name! So I chose to paint her in a manner that highlights this title. Everything in the painting has an association with Brighid and in this painting is symbolic of Imbolc, February 1st. On this day the Celts celebrated the return of the light and warmth: spring was on the way. While the weather was still frigid, sleeting and snowing,it was the start of lambing time, and ewes began letting down their milk. The milk and dairy products provided people with much needed nutrition and a welcome break from their meager late - winter diet. In both goddess and saintly manifestation she's connected to leaping flames and fire, the home hearth, craftsman ship and artisan skills, battle skills, blacksmithing, healing, eloquence and excellence are all associated with Brighid. * want your print signed (at no charge)?
