Bronx River Waterfall
After walking past the entrance gates to the Bronx Zoo located in the Bronx, New York a couple of days ago in the beginning of July 2013. I came across this beautiful scenic view before I could even get to see any of the animals. This gorgeous scene is the Bronx River Waterfall located right off of 180th Street in the Bronx. The Bronx River runs along the Bronx Zoo and hits this section and begins to drop forming this gorgeous scene as the water rolls over the rocks forming the white water and running the river out in the open and under the trees. Excellent view for hanging out and just relaxing. The Bronx River flows along
the eastern shore of River Park, which boasts a striking waterfall cascading over a dam located at the southern boundary of the Bronx Zoo. The park is a favorite spot for barbequing and picnicking next to the river, which defines this gem of an open space in the West Farms community. The dam was built in the middle to late 19th century to power a mill that resided on the west side of the river. For its entire length above the falls, the river is completely freshwater, with freshwater flora and fauna. Below this point, as it flows through the South Bronx, the river becomes increasingly more saline and tidally influenced.
