Congratulations, is this photo or digital painting? Either way it's excellent, just curious which it is.

Peter Chilelli replied:

Thanks John since I work from photos and most often "paint" over parts of them on my tablet as well as apply photoshop techniques/filters. I call it "digital art".

Brilliant, lovely to see the two aircraft together. The Spitfire was made in my home town, Birmingham UK., the manufacturing site is commemorated by a sculpture on the traffic island in Castle Bromwich known as, "Spitfire Island", next to the present day Jaguar factory: http://fineartamerica.com/art/all/spitfire+island/all Congratulations on your sale !

PS Here is MH434 in another incarnation: http://pixels.com/featured/boys-will-be-boys-low-flying-spitfires-gary-eason.html

High Wycombe, Bu - United Kingdom

Glad to help. Yes that works better - except the Battle of Britain was the summer and autumn of 1940 (not 1940-41). The Spitfire was made by the Supermarine company (a subsidiary of Vickers-Armstrongs Ltd). Great picture.

High Wycombe, Bu - United Kingdom

Terrific image but your caption is rather inaccurate, Peter. The Battle of Britain was in 1940 and featured the Mk I and II Vickers Supermarine Spitfire. The Mk IX was introduced much later. The one you portray here - MH434 / ZD-B (still flying amazingly) - was built in the summer of 1943. P51 Mustangs, sharing similar Rolls Royce-designed Merlin engines, around the same time - though this type, with the dorsal fin, was 1944 onwards. Cheers!

Peter Chilelli replied:

Thanks Gary I edited the description to be more accurate..
