The first female professional athletes in America were the early 20th c. rodeo cowgirls. Many times they competed in head to head competition with the men in saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, trick riding and trick roping. This is the first illustration in a series to be featured in the upcoming documentary "Oh, You Cowgirl!".
