Thank you all! Jon ... this was a one-time deal. About 20 volunteers placed about 1,000 luminaries trictly for the purpose of making photographs. At the time there was a coffee-table book being planned and that's why the photos.

Description

This triple arck stone bridge, known as Burnside Bridge, crosses the Antietam Creek on the Antietam Battlefield. Each year, on the first Saturday in December, more than 1,000 volunteers place and light 23,110 luminaries over a large portion of the battlefield, one for each casualty of the battle at Antietam (near Sharpsburg, Maryland) on September 17, 1862. This was the single bloodiest day of the Civil War. The bridge area is normally not a part of the annual memorial illumination. This was a special lighting, just for pictures, for a book that is to be printed about this event.
