Cape Florida Lite At Midnight
Painting - Oil On Canvas
"CAPE FLORIDA LIGHTHOUSE at MIDNIGHT" - An oil painting by Riley Geddings. The original oil on canvas moonscape was painted in January, 2006, and was signed by the artist. This unique scene is that of the Lighthouse at Cape Florida very late at night when the moon was full and shining in the clouds and reflections of the moon glistening on the waves and beach. The location is on the Atlantic ocean near Miami, Florida. The driftwood and the beached boat add authenticity to this
lovely midnight scene ! NOTE OF INTEREST:
The Cape Florida Lighthouse is one of the most celebrated landmarks owned by the State of Florida, and is located near Miami on the southernmost tip of Key Biscayne. The lighthouse has a violent past when hurricanes, fire, and the Seminole Wars swept through the region. The original lighthouse and cottage, built in 1825, were attacked and burned in 1836 by Seminole warriors protesting
U.S. presence in the South Florida wilderness. This historic lighthouse
in the Bill Baggs State Park was rebuilt in 1855-1856 extending the height to 95 feet.
