The Yuba River is one of California's most beautiful rivers. Its headwaters start high in the Sierras above Lake Tahoe and finish the journey in the San Francisco Bay.
The photographs have all been taken in Nevada County, CA, outside of the 49er Gold Rush town of Nevada City.
In the 1970's the river was threatened with many dam and hydroelectric projects. The local citizens formed an organization called the South Yuba River Citizens League, SYRCL. After 10 years of hard work SYRCL was able to obtain Wild and Scenic River status for the river, thus preserving its natural beauty for everyone for generations to come. From these images, you can see that it was worth the effort.
