Painting - Digital Art
Digital painting of Strecno Castle on misty cold day.
The Strecno Castle - the majestic castle fortress towers on a rock over the river Váh - is a Gothic castle in northern Slovakia, 7 km east of Zilina.
The castle was mentioned for the first time in 1384 in a phrase Comitatus castri Strechyn, i.e. estates of the Castle of Strečno. Based on indirect written reports it can be assumed that the Castle already existed in the first half of the 14th century.
In the past long gone, Strečno Castle was considered as the safest fortress of the region. Its establishment is assigned to the “Master of Váh and Tatras” Matúš Čák. A story associated with the Strečno Castle is the personal story of Žofia Bosniaková. Primarily, it is a story of her love for her husband, God and the poor.
