Ceramic Zoo 01
Ceramic Art - Porcelaneous Stoneware Clay With Oxides
this is a single piece from a set of artworks, the ceramic zoo series consists of 30 small ceramic sculptural forms.
‘To be a man is to feel that one’s own stone contributes to building the edifice of the world.’*
My work looks at the role of the ‘artist’ in a world where Consumerism and mass production rule, asking questions about the relevance of the ‘artist’ in this contemporary world, a world of product.
The forms that I build are metaphors for individuality and uniqueness in a world where everything is cliché. Each entity is individual and unique in its self, though its make-up is of similar, modular mass produced components, placed together like Lego®.
The ‘thingies’ are semi-organic, semi-industrial shapes, individual and also the same. As a group they mesh together to form bricks of a larger entity, they lose all individuality and become merely component cogs in the machine of the larger world.
‘It’s the Real Thing!’**
