Description:

The beauty of the Chicago River looking toward Lake Michigan. The bridges that cross the river are engineering masterpieces. The buildings are like an Art Museum for Architecture.I began this painting by laying in the water with it's reflections, then I painstakingly detailed some of background buildings, the road, the cars. All that remained was the foreground buildings and as with many paintings, I suddenly achieved an understanding of the scene I was painting, I suddenly was struck with divine vision and became inspired to let go of a detailed picture to create something from my mind. I picked up a paint knife and selected colors from my mind for my palate, i mixed some colors with raw intention, and brief technique. Then i just let go of the restrictions of a tight brush, I freed my hand from what the "picture" looked like and connected to my minds image to capture of the lighting and feeling of the moment. I used a knife to lay a thick impasto of paint inspired by memories of light and city connecting with my soul. The texture of the paint has as much meaning as the color itself. A free brush leaves the impression on the canvas of what i see in my mind and what my soul understands in the scene. Do you see it?? Do you see what I see as I see it??
