Description:
This is another exhibition piece for entry to Ironstone Vineyard's Spring Obsession Art Show for March 1&2, 2008. My other piece Daffodils Full of Light was accepted into the theme division. This piece gets into the Open division. I had a challenge here, I wanted a cheery country looking piece as the area up around this vineyard is agricultural. So, I went to my sister's who has these chickens called Coshins. They have very furry legs and this mother hen had a flock of youngins'. Her dog went after them and I took the shot, hence the title of the painting. The challenge was to get the chickens to be the focus but show the green grasses and shadows plus reflections of the barn on the water. Then make it look sunny like it was that day. I re-interpreted the style that the old French impressionists used with some of their favorite color choices also. What turned out was a very old fashioned impressionistic landscape featuring these funny chickens and dreamy reflections upon a body of water. It will be for sale at the vineyard art gallery between March 1-April 28, 2008.
