Description:

I do sculptures of this nature on a commission basis only, they are a lot of work and time. This piece was done in a technique called estufado from the renaissance period. It involves first carving then then gessoing and covering the entire figure with 23k gold leaf. I then painted with oil glazes over the gold and allowing the gold to shimmer through the paiint and also allowing the gold to be gold in other places. Next the figure is attached to the cross built for it. The feathers were from a woodpecker that accidently hit my car. I dried them open and attached them. They are a symbol representing the comingling of Native and Catholic religions that exists here in New Mexico. Each of my crosses are different and prices and discussions will determine yours.
