Description
Viana do Castelo in northern Portugal was an important port in mediaeval times, when it was the departure point for many Portuguese explorers. Its historic centre contains many fascinating buildings from the period, including the 16th century Casa dos Lunas (House of the Moon), so named because of the stone carvings of the moon on its facade.
