I was amazed how the flowers and background complimented this Queen Butterfly. It was as if he was posing for me. But not for too long. He is beautiful. The Queen Butterfly is a North and South American butterfly in the family Nymphalidae with a wingspan of 7088 mm. The scientific name is Danaus gilippus. The male Queen has two dark spots or patches which are easily seen when the wings are open. See my photo named "Queen Butterfly". One article described them as the family jewels. They are also seen on the underside of the wings as in this image.
