Description:
This is the Lobster Shack in the Two Lights area of Cape Elizabeth, Maine. From mid-April to mid-October, it swarms with visitors from all over the country eating lobster and other seafood "al fresco." The attraction is the location, the picturesque lighthouses, and behind the viewer surf crashing in the cliffs, not to mention the world's greatest fresh seafood. In looking for subjects to paint recently, I trudged out there through the untrod upon snow and saw this somewhat desolate scene--the place locked up tight, a jumble of picnic tables stored in a heap--all in the cold light of the winter sun. A painter looks for a new reality--here it is in January in Maine. There won't be any visitors today!
