Cocoa tree genetics research. Laboratory technician sequencing resistant gene homologues to use as molecular markers in the mapping of the genome of the cacao tree (Theobroma cacao). The seeds of this tree (cocoa beans) are used to produce cocoa powder and chocolate. This research is being carried out by the Agricultural Research Service of the US Department of Agriculture.
