Description
Cold connections are connections that require no soldering. Often cold connections will be used to mount delicate stones, such as enamels. The enamel leaf in the upper left is set in a single sheet of copper with "prongs" sawed part way and lifted up and over the enamel, or tabs that were extensions out from the leaf shape that fold in to hold the enamel. The bail is also an extension of the leaf "stem" curled and rolled over. Connections used in the upper right piece include a riveted setting for the faceted stone inside, lacing to connect the two domed halves of the pendant body, gromments for finished holes for the jump rings. The ring in the lower right is joined with a nut and bolt which holds the stacked beads. Other types of cold connections not shown include tab-and-slot connectors for linked components, hinges of springs and wire, staples, resins, curled corners to hold stones, wire cages, .... I'm sure you could think of others.
