An abstract digital oil painting of a colorful teapot and pitcher. This painting would add a beautiful spot of color to any wall.
Pottery is made by forming a clay body into objects of a required shape and heating them to high temperatures in a kiln which removes all moisture from the clay. This leads to permanant changes such as increasing strength, hardening and setting the shape. A clay piece can be decorated either before or after firing. Clay must be prepared prior to shaping...kneading helps insure even moisture throughout the clay. Air trapped in the clay must be removed. Once the clay is kneaded and the air removed, it may be shaped by a variety of techniques, then it must be dried and fired.
The glaze is a glassy coating that is applied to the clay. Glaze is applied for protection and decoration of the piece. Another important use of glaze is to make pottery vessels waterproof. The color of the glaze before firing may be completely different from the color after it has been fired.
