Description
This 2007 scene is already history. The solitary seagull silently winging through a pink dawn that slowly lights the mountain tops belies the drama unfolding below. In the last 7 years, this glacier has retreated more than 7 miles. Columbia Glacier began its drastic retreat in 1987and today the glacier face is a huge circular collection of smaller glaciers barely touching each other as you approach the mountains in the distance. The height of the glacier has dropped considerably and icebergs are getting smaller every year.
