The common piping guan measures between 60 and 69 cm and weighs from 1,200 to 1,350 g. The plumage is a glossy greenish blue or green with a few bluish tints. The colour of the bare facial skin varies considerably between white and blue. The wattle is a cobalt blue. The back of the neck is white and it has large, uniform patches of white on the wings. Physically, they have the appearance of a turkey; a full body with a long neck and small head. They are located in The Guianas, south of the Orinoco river in Venezuela, north-west Brazil, the Amazonian parts of central and east Columbia, east Ecuador and east Peru.
