This wooden baking mold was hand-carved by my dad, Otto Werner (1923 - 1991). Based on traditional design with a contemporary vision, this magnificent relief carving of a 17th century nobleman is surrounded by an in-laid strip of metal which is designed to be a cutting tool for easy cutting of the cookie dough. Created with exquisite craftsmanship, attention to detail and design, this lovely solid piece of wood with very smooth surface and well aged patina is now part of a New Zealand collection.
Hand-carved wood baking molds such as this, also called spekulatius molds, springerle cookie molds, Oecher Prente Form and Aachener Printen Formen, are used to shape large gingerbread cookies, Aachener Printen, Oecher Prente and springerle cookies.
