The Corning Civil War monument towers over a residential neighborhood. When the monument was built this street was the primary route between Corning and Elmira, making it an obvious location for a major civic monument. More then a century later interstate highways connect the two cities, and this has become a residential street, but Billy Yank continues to stand guard reminding Corning of those who died to preserve the Union.
