Cowrie On A Reef
Photograph - Photograph
Cowrie (Cypraea sp.) on a reef. Cowries are sea snails that cover their shell with a mantle, which is coloured and textured to match the host organism. In this way they resemble sea slugs (nudibranch). This may help them avoid predation, as nudibranchs are usually highly toxic. Photographed in Indonesia.
