Crazy Aunt Lorraine
Painting - Oil On Canvas
Lest it seem unflattering to be referred to as 'crazy' let me offer a glimpse into this woman. When I painted this image of Lorraine taken from an aged black and white photograph of her standing in cold winter sunlight gazing out at some distance vista, I knew her in person as an eighty-something year old woman still wearing stylish scarves and hats and riding a skateboard/scooter thing.
This painting is another piece of my ever expanding collection of paintings from edited family photographs.
Please view other examples in my portfolio in which I edit a photograph specifically and mindfully in order to distill the absolute essence of the meaning for my viewer. I think this one works in part because of the strong shoulder immediately to Lorraine's right. Father, husband, brother? Besides, how could I resist the scarf and sunglasses. Marvelous. You can see and feel the brush strokes of paint on this canvas.
Words I typically use to describe my paintings include: Alaska, Juneau, Douglas, oil painting, timi johnson, vintage, figure, portrait, sunglasses, scarf, winter, light, cold, fresh, brisk, stark, contrast, skin, face, shoulder, collar, family, father, brother, husband, couple, green, orange, yellow, woman, man.
