Crushed broken foot. Coloured X-ray of the foot of an adult woman showing fractures to the cuneiform bones and ends of metatarsal bones of the foot. The affected area is at centre (red). Here three wedge-shaped cuneiform bones articulate with three long metatarsal bones whose phalanges form the big toe and two toes next to it. At these joints, a number of bone fractures have occurred typical of a crushing injury to the top of the foot. Soft tissue of the limb is seen; the ankle joint is at lower frame.
