Daily Life For Enslaved Africans
Photograph - Photograph
Daily life for enslaved Africans in the Caribbean included curing tobacco, making rope (on right), and preparing cassava or manioc roots (left and center). Manioc roots were grated, cooked, pressed, dried, and sifted into flour called tapioca. The plantation house is in the distance. 1667 engraving by Sebastien Le Clerc (1637-1714).
