De Hoge Brug, Maastricht, Netherlands
Maastricht is a city in the Netherlands located in the southern part of the Dutch province of Limburg, of which it is the capital.
Maastricht developed from a Roman settlement to a religious centre, a garrison city and an early industrial city. Nowadays, it is known as a city of history, culture, local folklore and education. Furthermore, it has become known, by way of the Maastricht Treaty, as the birthplace of the European Union, European citizenship, and the single European currency, the euro. The town is popular with tourists for shopping and recreation, and has a large growing international student population.
De Hoge Brug (English: The High Bridge) is a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the river Maas in Maastricht . The bridge was opened in the year 2003 and connects the historic center of Maastricht with the new district Ceramique on the other bank of the river just south of the city district Wyck.
The bridge was designed by the Luikse architect Rene Greisch . The length of the bridge is 261 meters, width is 7.2 meters, it is 10 meters above the water level and the highest point of the arch is 26 meters above the water.
