Dr Jeremy Burgess
Photograph - Photograph
Partial decomposition of a leaf of the grape vine Vitis vinifera, emphasising the beginnings of the skeleton formed by the vascular remains, or veins, of the leaf. The brown areas are the remains of the chloroplasts, the pigments of which in a living leaf colour it green.
