Description
This is a digital original that I created some years ago for another POD site and titled "Mother of Pearl" but the way that the title and artist name were displayed made it look as if I am Pearl's mother, which I am not. At any rate, I did this as one of a series of clock faces that you could have printed here either on metal or acrylic. Drill a hole in the center dot and install clock hands and a battery mechanism and, as the Brits say, Bob's yer uncle - you've got a clock!
These days not too many people still have a use for wall clocks because they have time keepers on every cell phone, coffee maker, clock radio, and TV screen - it is hard to escape knowing what time it is and, for most of those mentioned, you don't even have to adjust for daylight savings yourself, as they automatically adjust themselves.
However, as a work of art, I always think it is nice to add a function to something that is decorative by nature. As this abstract began to take on a dreamy underwater aspect, I capitalized on that with bubbles, a starfish, and a large, lustrous pearl. The white numerals at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 positions are also reminiscent of sea life, and the remaining 5-minute markers are smaller pearl-like dots.
